Why so many layers of democracy and so many MPs and AMs?

OUR British parliament and its civil servants, 647 MPs, has the European Parliament, the Scots parliament, the Welsh Assembly with all their civil servants doing its work.

What comparative reductions have been made in the Commons, even the Lords? I suspect none, we do not get told though it appears to emulate the expenses fiasco in kind.

Just a massive duplication with many sinecures and sad taxpayers paying for four levels of government.
