IN view of some negative coverage about the West Shore Path (Letters Nov 5) could I express a word of appreciation for the path on behalf of the many walkers and cyclists of all ages who are using it.
There must have been hundreds of us over a typical summer weekend, based on my own experience as an occasional walker and cyclist, but a frequent user whenever the grandchildren visit.
Surely, based on the evidence, the path is a useful asset for the whole community, and potentially a major tourist attraction for the future, playing its part for the future, playing its part to reduce the doom and gloom often expressed in your paper by hoteliers and shopkeepers.
A final point, I have no strong views either way about the promenade decision, but it is surely incorrect to cite the "unused and ill-conceived" West Shore Path as an argument for protecting the Promenade.
And, yes, the stretch of wind-blown sand is a bit of a nuisance, but not to my grandchildren who hilariously compete to see who can ride furthest through it.
To sum up, the West Shore path is already an asset and in the longer term can only make Llandudno and Conwy more attractive places to visit.
I have no axe to grind but I note in The Times (Nov 6) a "12% increase in cycling 2007/2008, taking the number of cyclists to the highest level in 17 years".
