AS chairman of the Old Colwyn cemetery improvement committee I would like thank the pupils of Rydal Penrhos School for the work they did at Old Colwyn last week.
To see in excess of 40 youngsters working to improve the site was wonderful. This is not the first time they have shown their commitment to improving the environment and to get physically involved.
My thanks also to Cliff Prout who works tirelessly to promote not only this site but many more in Old Colwyn.
Unfortunately I was not available that day but Brian and Cheryl looked after the team and got stuck in I understand. I did take the opportunity to visit late morning and witnessed the work being done in glorious sunshine on what was a very hot day.
Next Saturday we have a coffee morning at St John’s Church, Old Colwyn, to launch Dilys Thomas’s latest book Old Colwyn Then and Now. The money raised will be put towards the restoration fund for the cemetery.
The restoration grants which we have applied for cannot take place without the evidence of community involvement and the work undertaken by the schools play an integral part in this.
Once again many thanks to you all, you are a fine example of today’s youth and a credit to the school.
Cllr Glyn Jones,
Old Colwyn
