We must do more to protect our children

LAST week’s headline Šconcern for yet another gridlocked downtown Llanrwst is Šdiverting parents’ attention from remaining Šhidden dangers from the town’s small rivers.

I despair Šthat the more Šobvious Šdangers are Šnot obvious Šuntil flood Šdefence schemes Šare Šin place after the Štown Šhas Šhad Šin the meantime several public Šconsultations and high profile visits Šfrom engineers and ministers.

From my own observations I claim that there Šis an urgent pressing Šneed for a root Šand branch risk assessment of Šother Špotential hazards Šwhere a Štrapped Šchild Šmight be Šswept Šaway.

One is at the entrance to Cae Person from Nebo Road Šwhere ŠI saw Štwo girls Šon a Šsix Šinch wide Šledge above Šthe entrance Što the under road Špipe.

With high water they would Šhave Š been unable Što scramble Šup the steep smooth sides Šleading Što Šthe culvert. Closer inspection revealed an old hole Šin the protective and Šskimpy wire Šbarrier which has Šsince reported. Š

Perhaps Šthe public Šcould look around Štheir Šneighbourhood and let Conwy Council know Šif Šthey are Šconcerned that Šthere is Ša Šreal hazard present. Š

With £ 40 million in Conwy’s ŠTreasure Chest, Šcan it not Šspare a mere £1000 for a safety specialist’s Šreport that might Šsave a Šchild’s Šlife?
