Dangers of playing in quarries

EVERY year young people in areas like North Wales put themselves at risk of injury and even death in their local quarries.

So with the summer holidays upon us I appeal to parents to ensure that their children are aware of the potential dangers. The warning applies to both active and disused quarries.

Our national survey of quarry managers showed that warm weather is a trigger for children to seek adventure in quarries.

A quarry plays a vital role in local life. It is a safe place to work for those who are properly trained, but is not a safe place to play.

Quarry Products Association members take their responsibilities seriously. Many liaise with schools to deliver the safety message. But we need the help of parents. Please ensure that you know where your children are playing this summer.

If your children are still fascinated by quarries they may enjoy our free, fun and educational websites: www.virtualquarry.co.uk and clicking on www.quarryrescue.com.
