IF YOU have not yet seen the fantastic New Moon: Twilight Saga don’t be put off by teenage pouting or American High School cliches.
For those of you who think Twilight is for teenage girls with a penchant for too much eyeliner and face piercings- you would probably be right.
However New Moon is first class entertainment whether you are a depressed 14-year-old emo or a 32-year-old regional journalist who just wants to whittle away 130 minutes and escape from the grind with a daft, but equally epic tale of vampires and werewolves.
If you’ve still not seen Twilight, grab a copy of the DVD before heading to the cinema. New Moon follows on from the first movie when Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) wakes up on her 18th birthday from a dream in which she is an old woman, while her boyfriend, vampire, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) remains youthful as ever and locked forever aged 17.
Bella consequently continues to attempt to persuade Edward to transform her into a vampire, before ultimately pushing him away. Heartbroken over their split she turns to Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) one of the town’s resident werewolves. A love triangle emerges and the confrontation between the warring vampires and Native American werewolves makes for a brilliant action.
Twilight’s success has landed the film a far bigger budget. The visuals special effects dwarf those in the first movie and the action is fast-paced and less quiet than the slower moving first movie, which focused more the couple’s on forbidden love.
Like Twilight, certain parts of the movie are soppy enough to make even Adrian Mole cringe, but if you want a undiluted harmless two hours of fun, for most of the family, this ticks all the boxes.
A movie for Harry Potter fans who have grown-up.
