Connie Fisher can't wait to bring The Sound of Music to Venue Cymru

CONNIE Fisher is looking forward to getting beside the sea in Llandudno.

Venue Cymru was due to be the last date on her tour starring as Maria in The Sound of Music, but she’s decided to extend the role until next January.

In the meantime, she’s longing to get to North Wales in May, so she can get some fresh air.

Though born in Northern Ireland, she grew up on a South Wales farm and spent her early years performing in eisteddfodau.

"I was made a Bard of the Gorsedd last year at Bala, and I remember getting a Welsh learner title at the National.

"I am looking forward to getting to Llandudno, it will be lovely to be near the sea and see all that scenery after being in cities."

Connie shot to fame – and a West End role – after winning Andrew Lloyd- Webber’s BBC show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? . Between shows, she’s also trying to organise her wedding to banker Jeremy Reed, who she met at Cardiff Station.

"I’ve never been good at saving but I’ve got a wedding coming up so I thought I’d better get working," she laughed.

"It will be a quiet affair, no big Jordan- style event sold to a magazine. It will be a small church near my home in South Wales, with my family – though I hadn’t realised just how many aunties I have!"

Lloyd-Webber’s getting an invite, as will many of her cast colleagues.

She will be wearing a dress by Italian designer Caroline Castigliano, plus a ring from Tiffany’s.

After the tour ends she’s got plans to develop her career.

"I am ambitious," she admits. "There’s lot of things I’d like to do, such as the stage – I would love to do Shakespeare and more TV as well."

She’s not ruling out another CD or musical.

"It has to be the right role, has to be plenty of comedy and quirky. That’s what I do best."
