THE international smash hit Blood Brothers arrives this month at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru.
The popular musical tells the moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret.
With a much-loved score which includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True, the show has often been hailed as one of the best loved theatre shows.
Written by esteemed writer and composer Willy Russell and produced by Bill Kenwright, the epic tale of Liverpool life has been running in London’s West End since 1988 and touring the UK since 1995.
The story tackles nature vs nurture, where two brothers with different backgrounds take them to opposite ends of the social spectrum.
Originally from Denbigh, Sean Jones, 38, is playing Mickey and said he couldn’t wait to return to North Wales to perform.
Sean now lives in West Yorkshire with his wife Tracy, who is expecting their first child.
"It will be nice to get to Llandudno. I like Llandudno as a town, it is a beautiful and untouched location," he said.
"Blood Brothers is a cracking story, the songs are memorable, there are some great tunes but people don’t remember Blood Brothers as a musical, more of a play with songs," he said.
"People don’t come out singing the show’s tunes, the audience doesn’t get up dancing on their feet. People remember the story.
"It’s about two brothers who are separated at birth but keep meeting each other throughout their lives, and it shows they go on different paths.
"My character is a typical working class man in the 1970s on the dole, or getting a job and then being handed his P45 after a couple of weeks.
"It is a very sad route – Mickey’s brother Eddie has a much more charmed existence, he goes to university and eventually becomes a councillor.
"Despite the fact that, at the beginning of the show, it gives the ending away, the audience tends to forget because they are swept away by the brilliant characters and plot."
Blood Brothers is at Venue Cymru between September 7- 12. Tickets are on sale now starting from £14. For more information contact the Venue Cymru box office on 01492 872000.
