MOVIE buffs are in for cinematic treats galore as Llandudno’s Venue Cymru starts to show films for the first time.
Theatre bosses are branching out into the world of the movies!
So whether you’re a lover of musicals such as West Side Story, starring Natalie Wood, or like the touching drama about Women’s Institute charity strippers in Calendar Girls, you’ll relish midweek film matinées like these and other favourites they’ve got lined up.
Marketing officer Jo Brett at Venue Cymru says that the modern classics will be shown in the cosy surroundings of the new 75-seater Cinema Studio at Venue Cymru.
Jo says: "Since the extension here a couple of years ago, we’ve had a lecture theatre in the conference centre. The lecture theatre is a very specific area. The conference centre is busy but we thought we would try to use the lecture theatre more. Our assistant general manager Roger Richardson suggested showing films there. It’s a small, intimate theatre.
"We are not going to be showing current films, they will mainly be modern classics. As I am a bit of a musicals fan, I am particularly looking forward to West Side Story, and also Strictly Ballroom. But we hope there’ll be something for everybody."
Other magical movies being revisited include all six Star Wars films in the order in which they were intended to be seen, the gripping prison drama The Shawshank Redemption, starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, and the Oscar winning rags to riches story Slumdog Millionaire, set in Mumbai.
Tickets cost £5, and £7.50 for the double showings, including tea and biscuits. West Side Story is showing today (Thursday) August 13, at 2pm, followed by Hey Mr Producer tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm; The Shawshank Redemption on Tuesday, Strictly Ballroom on Wednesday, and The Shawshank Redemption again next Thursday, all at 2pm.
