Search no more for top 60s classics

NOBODY works harder than The Searchers.

That’s according to singer Frank Allen who has been a part of the iconic group for well over 40 years and has no intention of hanging his bass up yet.

Speaking between visits to Malta and Canada and ahead of the show’s visit to Rhyl in July, Frank told the Weekly News: “We work harder than any other band. We tour every year and Rhyl is a great place. There used to be areas of the country where we’d get better support than others but not so much now.”

Formally with the Rebel Rousers in the early 1960s, Frank was asked to join the group when Tony Jackson left in August 1964 after a meteoric rise to fame and a string of hits.

“In the old days all we had to do was go out on stage and get screamed at,” recalls Frank.

“Since then we’ve had to learn how to control an audience. We now play for over two and a half hours and go through our history.

“People know what to expect from us by now and I urge people to bring with them anyone they know because once you come to one, we know we’ve got you hooked and everyone has a special place for music from our era.”

The Searchers will be at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl on July 24 at 7.30pm. For ticket information call the box office on 01745 330000.
