A YOUNG band from Deganwy is starting to make waves in the music industry.
The Intrinsics formed as a band on the arrival of rhythmic exocet Adam Jones in late 2007. Since then, the songs have come thick and fast, courtesy of guitarist Joel Miles.
Tunes such as the pounding This is History and the anthemic After All have led to the band attracting a large and loyal fan base.
Along with airplay on various radio stations the band has drawn comparisons to Manchester giants Oasis. Indeed they are about to follow in the footsteps of Oasis by performing at the iconic Manchester Academy tomorrow (Friday).
Their sound is heavily indebted to bands such as The Who, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys and The Beatles.
The band is an indie rock outfit with Joel Miles on lead guitar, Dan Wild on guitar and vocals, Callum Stronach on bass and Adam Jones on drums. All the boys are in the sixth form at Ysgol Aberconwy. Joel is the principal songwriter and their songs can be heard on www.myspace.com/intrinsics
The Ysgol Aberconwy students say they have the blood of British rock and roll coursing through their veins. Having honed their ability through a series of local gigs and studio sessions, the band is now set to launch its assault of indie rock ’n’ roll on the wider stage and plan to gig the UK throughout 2009.
They have three big gigs coming up. The first at the Manchester Academy is this Friday, and there are two coaches leaving Ysgol Aberconwy at 5.30pm. Tickets are £5 each and the fare £7.50 per person. For tickets call 07963 645905.
Their second gig is on February 25 at the Night and Day cafe, also in Manchester. On March 20, the band has its third gig at the Zanzibar club in Liverpool.
