Review: Derek Acorah at Venue Cymru, Llandudno

AT A packed Venue Cymru Derek Acorah entertained a crowd of mainly hard-core fans together with his “spirit guide” Sam.

The Scouse psychic medium is a likeable chap and his performance made for an engrossing and fun evening as Derek attempted to contact the spirit world and pass on happy messages from the other-side to the audience.

Having interviewed Derek last month, I was fascinated with his beliefs and the abilities he claims to possess. I must admit I wasn’t convinced from the one performance. It would though be hard to argue some of the accuracy he conveyed wasn’t remarkable, in at least one or two instances.

At other times though he did appear to be grasping at straws. “I’ve got a Jack.” Lady in audience shakes her head. “A John who was known as Jack.” Lady agrees.

Derek’s undoubtable charm and stage presence won me over and while I wouldn’t say I was a believer I’m definitely a fan – although the half-time change to a cream suit was perhaps bright enough to wake some of the audience’s elderly contingent, never mind the dead.

While Derek is no doubt serious about his beliefs, he doesn’t take himself too seriously and even made a few friendly jokes about Most Haunted, the show’s presenter Yvette Fielding and his attire.

I would definitely go to see Derek again and happily give him another chance of convincing me – really good fun.
