Llandudno's Venue Cymru to show Cyrano

A NEW adaptation of Edmund Rostond’s play, Cyrano comes to Llandudno this month.

Based on the life of Cyrano de Bergerac the show tells the story of love, poetry and lust and is played out against a Parisian backdrop and performed by Welsh theatre group Na Nog.

Set in the 1600s the classic story is told of the nasally challenged, Cyrano and his love for beauty, Roxanne. Cyrano is desperate to declare his love for Roxanne but believing she will reject his advances instead settles to live out his hopes through another, the handsome but inarticulate, Christian.

However Christian is not the sharpest tool in the box and so enlists Cyrano’s help to attempt to capture her soul with his poetry.

Phylip Harries is with the Neath- based Theatr Na Nog and was preparing to embark on a six week tour with the group. Playing baker, Ragueneau, Phylip believed the show would appeal to everybody who enjoyed a good night out.

"It is a show for all the family. We are still in rehearsal at the moment but we are touring throughout Wales and England and we open next week in Brecon," said Phylip.

"People might have seen the Steve Martin film, Roxanne, which is based on the same story, but set in modern day – this is set back in the 1600s with period costume.

"The show is fast and furious with some beautiful poetry, comedy and a love story. It has all the ingredients of a great night out at the theatre."

Cyrano comes to Venue Cymru in Llandudno at 7.30pm on Friday, October 31. Tickets are priced £12 and £8 for children. For more information contact the box office on 01492 872000.
