Bowls: Hughes helps Deganwy secure a draw

BRYN HUGHES produced a 21-7 win to help land Deganwy a 7-7 draw in their North Wales Coast League Section A tussle at Rhos Park A.

John Davies 21-12 was Rhos’ pick, while consistent Lewis Scott 21-7 helped St Asaph bounce back with a 10- 4 boost against struggling visitors Llanfairpwll.

Colwyn Bay RBL comfortably outscored Llanrwst 11-3 and DW Hughes 21-1 headed the honours list as rampant Blaenau Ffestiniog crushed Penmaenmawr A 13-1 in the best-of- the-day to boost their title ambitions.

Leaders Denbigh A also showed their teeth with a 12-2 slamming of Bangor City while Copperfields came unstuck 9-5 in their away date at promotion hopefuls Caernarfon in Section B.

Fron Park sank Minydon Park 11-3, Dave Morgan 21-10, while Hefin Cunnah and Gerwyn Davies both carded 21-7 to land Dyserth a 9-5 win over visitors Conwy, Tom Roberts 21-7 replying.

Abergele despatched visitors Craig- y-Don 10-4 as they step up their promotion push in Section C, while John Whittaker 21-3 headed Llysfaen’s winners in their 9-5 success against Penygroes, Ken Fraser 21-7.

St Asaph B found themselves involved in a rare rain-stopped-play decision at flooded Llanrwst while Stan Eccles 21-2 took the eye as Vardre sank Bala 13-1, Brian Jones 21-18 the only away winner.

LLANRWST are up to second in the Blackwell Hydraulics Welsh Counties League after a 7-3 victory at Rhos Park, Kevin Williams 21-11 seeing them to a 128-149 advantage.

Also victorious for the Rwsters were John Bailey 21-12, Anthony Bailey 21- 13, David Williams 21-14 and Mark Parry 21-15. Replying for Rhos were Mark Billington 21-12, Andy Bray 21-13 and Steve Lawley 21-19.

Deganwy Jones Roofing produced a powerful performance to come away 7- 3 winners at Sunny Rhyl, Bryn Hughes 21-8, Carl Lewis 21-9, Daniel Jones 21- 10, Peter Jones 21-10 and Scott Todd 21- 20 all victorious.

Colwyn Bay RBL were unlucky to fall 6-4 to Beaumaris in a 132-134 countback after being locked on 4-4, John Crowl 21-5 the Bay’s pick with Alan Evans 21-13, Diane Slater 21-14 and Steve Barron 21-18 also in winning form.

St Asaph were blitzed 9-1 at Llay where only Lewis Scott 21-7 averted a wipe-out in a 154-103 split.

UNSTOPPABLE pacemakers St Asaph raced to another 10-4 win at Rhuddlan to tighten their grip on the Vale of Clwyd League’s Division A. Phil Nash 21-5 spearheaded Saints’ familiar sixth straight win.

Denbigh remain closest challengers after a matching 10-4 success at Trefnant, while Dyserth enjoyed a 10-4 victory over Meliden.

Dilwyn Pritchard 21-7 edged Abergele to a tight 8-6 win at Highbury while Copperfields extended their title surge in Division B with a 9-5 defeat of Rhuddlan B.

Danny Prosser 21-6 and John Whittaker 21-7 landed second-placed Llysfaen a 9-5 win over Sunny Rhyl, while Terry Harper’s 21-4 earned Grove Park a 9-5 derby romp at Rhyl A.

Kinmel Bay are setting a hot pace in Division C after toppling Trefnant B 9- 5 while Joe Hibbert 21-2 ensured a 9-5 victory for Rhos Park against Rhyl B, Stan Martin 21-9.
