Table tennis: Tight at the top in the Llandudno league

THE Division Two title race in the Llandudno and District Table Tennis League looks to be heading to the wire.

After week nine’s matches Police B went top for the first time this season, albeit jointly with Amlwch.

The boys in blue enjoyed a comfortable 9-1 victory over Denbigh C while Amlwch went one better with a 10-0 whitewash over bottom club Y Morfa D.

Denbigh B maintained their unbeaten record with a 9-1 success over their D team and Craig-y- Don B beat Glan Clwyd Hospital 6-4, Ady Waugh extending his unbeaten league record in a tight five-game duel with Clive Sparkes.

A Handicap Cup first round clash saw Amlwch B edge past Craig–y –Don A by 16 points, although First Division Craig won the nine matches predicted by the handicap.

The key clash saw Amlwch’s higher-rated Don Hobbs up against John Bastin, who was hoping for 40 points, but the experienced Hobbs wore him down for a 50-24 result that secured Amlwch’s success.

Division One side Y Morfa B’s improving form was good enough to see off their C team 7-3, Geoff Hollis leading the way with his first maximum of the season.

Chris Henderson got off the mark with an excellent win over Andy Horton and a straight sets victory against Pru Oakes.
