ELEVEN Abergele Harriers were in action at the weekend, with two travelling to Stoke for the St Michael’s 10k, and the remaining nine staying closer to home running over the same distance in the Riverbank Run organised by Prestatyn Running Club.
First Harrier home in the Riverbank was last year’s winner Darren Blazier who, on this occasion, was fourth overall in an excellent time of 35mins 32secs.
Next home was Keith Elliott, with a personal best time for the distance of 41.10, for 18th position overall, second MV45.
Ed Reid also ran superbly, taking third spot in the same category as Elliott, and 21st overall in a time of 41.57, while Mark Mayers was another Harrier to get a PB on the day, finishing in 45.07, for 46th.
Andy Goodson, running his first 10k for the club, also had a day to remember, with an excellent 47.26 for 62nd position, while Peter Hardy was not far behind in 47.52 for 66th overall.
Katie Williams and Peter Smith made the long trip up from Poole worthwhile, finishing in excellent times of 50.06 and 50.07 respectively.
Another pair to run together was Harrier Susan Calvert and her daughter Nicola, finishing the course in 55.15.
On the same day, Dewi and Gareth Roberts travelled to take part in the St Michael’s 10k, with Dewi finishing in 36.14 for 20th and Gareth 36.56 for 25th.
FOUR members of Carneddau Triathlon Club travelled to Liverpool to race in a number of events hosted at the Albert Dock.
Phil Porter, competing in his first open water event, won the Liverpool Super Sprint Triathlon.
Also in his first year of triathlon, Porter flew round the 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run in a time of 46.22.
With further success, Martin Williams posted a vintage performance in the sprint triathlon, 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run, winning the 60 to 64 age group in 1–25.40.
Graham Jones and Tim Harding completed the Olympic distance race, 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run. Jones finished 72nd (11th in age group) in 2–27.32 and Harding 80th (12th in age group) in 2–29.37.
Four members competed in the Deva Triathlon. Carneddau‘s Vicky Ronald posted a PB and took third in her age group in 2–40.06, Russell Godwin finished 35th in 2–16.56, Richie Lee 46th in 2–19.17 and Julian Browne 119th in 2–30.52.
Race one of Carneddau Triathlon Club’s Summer Splash and Dash Series was held on Wednesday. The winner of the 1km open water swim and 5km run was Vince Edwards 33.43, and keeping it in the family Val Edwards, his mother, was first woman home in 47.50.
NORTH Wales Road Runners took part in the Riverbank 10k race at Prestatyn.
Their times were: Kerry Blinston 38.22, Chris Yorke 38.41 (1st vet 40-44), Konrad Roberts 40.09, Kevin Higgins 45.33, Kay Hatton 46.04 (2nd vet 45-49), Steve Warburton 49.23, Norman Connor 70.00 (1st vet over-75).
