GERWYN JONES finished just three minutes behind Olympic Gold medallist James Cracknell when he ended up in the top 25 in the Mountain Triathlon in Keswick in the Lake District.
The race attracted nearly 300 competitors and was won by Marc Laithwaite of TheEnduranceCoach.com in 2h 2m 42s. Carneddau Triathlon member Gerwyn completed the 750m swim, 35km bike and 10km run in 2–17.30, finishing 23rd overall and 11th in his age group.
Vince Edwards competed in the Little Beaver Triathlon, a World Age Group championship qualifier, held at Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire at the weekend.
The winner, Tristan Shipsides of Full on Tri completed the Olympic distance 1500m swim, 38km bike and 10km run in 1–56.35. Vince finished in 2–13.53, 70th place overall and 12th in his age group.
Entries to the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon are still available at www.carneddautriathlon.com and all money raised by the race goes to Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice.
This weekend, Carneddau member Martin Williams competes in the National Age Group Championships in the 60 to 65 cat’, while Rhian Roxburgh races at Elite level in Blenheim. Five club members travel to Switzerland for the Ironman 70.3 race.
