Bowls: Deganwy ace Williams through to senior finals

DEGANWY’S Darren Williams was among those who battled through to the Welsh Senior Merit bowls finals following last week’s Gwynedd qualifying round.

There were 20 entries for the qualifier at Craig-y-Don and results were as follows:

Preliminary round: Adam Harris (Beaumaris) bt Carl Lewis (Deganwy) 21-11, John G Davies (Llanfair PG) bt Aelwyn Roberts (Bangor) 21-10, John Pritchard (Llanrwst) bt Bobby Newell (Penmaenmawr) 21-19, Kevin Williams (Llanrwst) bt Dave Williams (Llanrwst) 21-14.

Round one: Harris bt Davies 21-14, K Williams bt John Pritchard 21-0, John Evans (Llanfair PG) bt Gavin Williams (Beaumaris) 21-12, Richard Harvey (Llanfair PG) bt Sean Gallimore (Penmaenmawr) 21-20, Elfyn Jones (Caernarfon) bt Joe Pritchard (Llanrwst) 21-17, Adam Hyde (Blaenau Ffestiniog) bt Chris Taylor (Llangefni) 21-9, Andy Owens (Beaumaris) bt Alan Dugdale (Penmaenmawr) 21-15, Darren Williams (Deganwy) bt Mark Parry (Beaumaris) 21-18.

Quarter-finals: Harris bt K Williams 21-14, Evans bt Harvey 21-15, Hyde bt Jones 21-18, D Williams bt Owens 21-8.

In the semis, Harris beat Evans 21-14 to qualify for the Welsh finals as did Williams who overcame Hyde, also 21-14.

At Caernarfon the other three qualifiers from Gwynedd were Gareth Hughes (Craig y Don), Geraint Jones (Deganwy) and Anthony Bailey (Llanrwst).

COLWYN AND LLANDUDNO DISTRICT LEAGUE

STEVE Lawley was top performer with a 21-8 victory as Rhos Park A won 8-4 at Llanrwst and are now the only team who remain with a 100% record in the Colwyn and Llandudno District Bowls League’s Section A.
