Bowls: Centenary Cup held at Llandudno

THE weather took pity on the bowlers who took part in the Centenary Cup held at Llandudno Oval and after the round-robin part of the competition eight players remained.

Among them was Clive Brook, winner of the Seniors Competition and Gordon Telford, who was first in the Foursomes.

In the quarter-finals Brian Evans was too strong for Margaret Snow as after taking her corner to corner he ran out a 10-5 victor after 10 ends while Doris Harding lost a close game to Pam Farrell 6-8.

In the bottom half of the draw Peter Rigby also took a tight affair 8-6 against Wendy Poynton and Brook was winning 7-6 with one end to go before Telford got two on the last to pinch it 8-7.

The semi-final saw Evans again go long to beat Farrell 17-3 after 12 ends and Telford managed to score enough in the early ends to hang on against Rigby 11-10 after 12.

In the final, Telford quartered the green to win at a trot 17-4 against Evans after 15 ends and collect the Centenary Cup.
