Hockey: Llandudno move into top three

LLANDUDNO moved into third place in Division Five South of the North West Hockey League with a 5-1 home victory over Chester 3rds.

That puts them five points behind second-placed Bramhall, who they travel to play in a crunch game in the promotion race this Saturday.

Llandudno got the boost of two early goals from Steve Tustin, his instinctive reverse shot beating the keeper inside the first five minutes and then finishing off a Kieron Rigby through ball two minutes later.

Llandudno doubled their lead with two more goals in two minutes early in the second half from Tom Simpson and Pete Hoyland, both from penalty corners, and although Chester pulled a goal back with a superb stroke, Simpson wrapped up the points with Llandudno’s fifth goal in the final minute from another penalty corner.

Colwyn Bay lost their top four place in Division One when their home game against Bebington was postponed because of the frozen surface .

They are away to bottom four side Formby this Saturday.

Colwyn Bay 2nds lost 3-0 at Division Five South leaders Winnington Park, but Colwyn Bay 3rds took their 100 per cent record into double figures in Division 9 South with a 3-1 win at Triton 3rds to make it 10 wins out of 10.

They lead the table by five points.

Llandudno 2nds moved up to second place in Division 10 South with a 6-0 win at Chester 6ths. They play divisional leaders Neston South Wirral 6ths this Saturday.

RACHEL COOK scored a hat-trick as Llandudno Ladies 2nds beat Bangor University 2nds 4-0, with Susan Barnard getting their other goal. Lynne Dunkley was named player of the match.
