Rugby League: Local boys help Wales become Euro champions

NORTH WALES based players, including Tom Beaumont from Llandudno and Ian Marshall of Colwyn Bay returned with a triumphant Wales squad that won the European Nations Under-18 Rugby League Nations Cup in Prague last week.

Both boys, who play for the Rhyl Coasters club, played in the 64-0 win over the Czech Republic, and Tom Beaumont was further selected in the team that beat England 40-22 in the semi-final, and for the final against France, which Wales also won 38-24 to be crowned European champions.

Coasters team-mate Rhys Williams scored seven tries in the three games, starting with a hat-trick in the win over the Czech Republic and his two tries in the final helped him take the man of the match award.

Terry Saunders of Celtic Crusaders also scored a hat-trick of tries against the Czech Republic, with Ian Marshall helping to set up one of them.
