MOUNTAIN marathon champions Chris Near from Dwygyfylchi and his Eryri club colleague Tim Higginbotham have won the two-day Swiss Mountain marathon for the second year running.
And their success at Lenzerheide keeps them on course for their bid to win all five mountain marathons in a single season.
So far they have won the Highlander in Scotland in March, the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon in June and now the Swiss.
Their next event is the Mourne Mountain Marathon in Ireland in September and the Original Mountain Marathon in the Lake District in October.
The pair, who are sponsored by INOV-8 running shoes, were 34 minutes ahead of the field at the overnight camp at the end of the first day of the Swiss Mountain marathon, and they added a further 15 minutes to their lead on day two..
The event saw competitors climbing to 3,000 metres above sea level using maps and compass.
Said Chris: "What made the win even more satisfying was that the second-placed team were members of the Swiss National Orienteering team and they had great local knowledge of the area as they live only 10-miles from the start!"
