THERE was a record turn-out for the Christmas Individuals competition in the Worthington’s Llandudno and District Winter Darts League, held at the British Legion Club, writes Arthur Williams.
Entries from all of our four divisions made it a packed night to end the 2011 league programme and there was darts of the highest standard throughout.
Premier One league leaders Penrhyn Arms A dominated all the honours.
The Premier One winner was Jim Dorenbos of Pen Arms, with team-mate Clive Davies the beaten finalist. Semi-finalists were Pen Arms duo Ian Jones and Bob Wilson.
Rob Williams of RAOB A was Premier Two winner, with Hugh Kelly of Malt Loaf the other finalist.
Premier Two semi-finalists were Steve Williams of RAOB and Malt Loaf’s Colin Jones.
Links Hotel’s Graham Williams took the honours in Division One, with team-mate Roy Babbs also making the final. Chris Jones of the British Legion and Links’ Ian Eardley made up the last four placings.
Division Two winner was Ian Jones of Club 147, beating fellow finalist Dan Owen from West Shore. The semi-finalists were Mike Williams (Kings) and his team-mate Ian Anderson.
Premier One saw the largest number of entries with all the top players taking part.
On his way to the final, Dorenbos beat Gary Owen in a cracking three-leg quarter-final.
He then went on to the semi final where he came up against team-mate Ian Jones. Dorenbos won that as well to line up a final encounter with another team-mate Clive Davies, who in his semi-final had knocked out Bob Wilson.
In Premier Two Rob Williams was in cracking form in his final, beating the sporting Kelly who had earlier knocked out Steve Williams in the semis. All through the night’s play, Rob only dropped one leg.
Division One winner Graham Williams beat team-mate Babbs, who was making a welcome return to the league, with the Links captain Eardley also in the prizes.
League committee man Chris Jones, of the Legion, earned praise for eaching the last four in Division One.
Ian Jones of Club 147 has been in great form this season and took the Division Two title, beating Dan Owen in a great final, with Mike Williams of the kings and Ian Anderson both reaching the semi-finals.
