Cricket: Mochdre look for more 20/20 success

MOCHDRE Cricket Club will be looking for a “three-peat” this coming Sunday as they defend their North Wales 20/20 crown against the challenge of Denbigh, Connah’s Quay and Menai Bridge.

Battle commences at 11am when Mochdre play Denbigh with the victors progressing to the 4.30pm final to meet the winners of the 1.45pm Menai Bridge v Connah’s Quay clash.

Meanwhile, Mochdre’s first team were pipped by two wickets in a low-scoring affair at Pontblyddyn in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

South African Marcel Frenzel scooped 7-27 as Mochdre were skittled out for just 69, Matt Bennett (25) and Gareth Davies (10) the only double-figure scorers.

Pont were reduced to 56-8 in reply, but scraped home without further loss, Adam Campion snaring 5-22 off 13.4 overs and Davies grabbing 2-16.
In Division One, Conwy were beaten by 96 runs at Chirk.

The hosts declared on 227-4, Nicholas Flack 109 not out, Raj Britto 2-40, then the Musselmen were dismissed for just 131, Philip Davies 44, Daniel Davies 31, Jonathan Davies and Jake Longmore 22 apiece.

Neil Gallagher followed up his six-wicket haul of the previous week by claiming an even better seven in Llandudno seconds’ demolition of Bethesda.

Andrew Christian was 56 not out and Phil Williams struck 51 as Tudno totalled 211 all out and in reply, Pesda were sent packing for 110, Gallagher 7-32 and Shaun Kitchen 2-0.

Tomos Slattery’s 5-30 helped Llanrwst to a three-wicket triumph at Menai Bridge seconds.

The Anglesey side made 168, Alwyn Williams adding 3-13, and the Rwsters made it to 169-7, Trefor Williams 52.

Abergele registered a 7-3 points win over Corwen in Division Two.

Sam Painter (54) and Ben Garnett (46) helped Gele to set 187-9 and Owen Lynam grabbed 5-48 as Corwen were dismissed for 154.

Division Four action saw Llandudno thirds defeated by Corus Colors.

The Flintshire hosts posted 163-6 and Tudno could only muster 103 all out in reply, Joe Lambe 24.

Graham Heath’s 65 helped Conwy seconds record a winning 204-9 over Llangollen who were dismissed for 107, John Brummer with 5-28. Philip Wilson scored 39 and took 2-6 for Conwy.

Llanrwst seconds dismissed Abergele seconds for a paltry 22, Lee Thomas with 5-10 and Anthony Williams 4-12, then the Rwsters coasted to 23-2 for a 9-1 verdict.

In a Division Four top of the table encounter, Mochdre seconds crashed 9-1 to Gresford seconds.

Alex Davies notched 4-57 but Gresford rattled up a formidable 234-6, then Mochdre were limited to 188-7, Peter Williams 58 and Gareth Colman 43.

Mochdre thirds thrashed Gwersyllt Park seconds 10-0 at Black Marsh Fields on Sunday in a Division Five clash.

Thomas Davies snaffled 6-12 off eight overs as Park were blitzed out for a paltry 62 and Mochdre were 63-0 in reply, Alastair Paterson 37 not out.
