Bowls: Rhos Park close gap at the top

RHOS PARK A took advantage of leaders Colwyn Bay RBL’s slip-up by closing the gap at the North Wales Coast League’s Section A summit to four points with an 8-6 win at Beaumaris A.

Roger Wilson and John Davies were both 21-5 victors for Rhos who have a game in hand over a Legion side surprisingly defeated 10-4 at Bangor City where Mark Lawton performed best for the visitors at 21-4.

Last season’s runners-up Blaenau Ffestiniog hit form with an 11-3 romp at promoted Rhos Park B.

Pacemakers Conwy took a maximum stride closer to promotion with a 14-0 wipe-out of visitors Copperfields with their 12 win in 13 Section B starts but second-placed Min-y-Don were not far behind with a 11-3 slamming of Mochdre.

Graham Thomas 21-8 was Min-y-Don’s pick, David Jones 21-7 replying, while bottom club Dyserth toppled Eirias Park 10-4, Barry Phillips 21-6 for the Colwyn Bay side.

Holyhead kept up their promotion challenge beating Llandudno A 8-6, Peter Wilde 21-9 for Tudno, while Caernarfon also emerged 8-6 ahead at Craig-y-Don.

Benllech remain out front in Section C after sinking Llanrwst B 10-4 while Llysfaen trailed by the same margin at next-door Old Colwyn. David Gardner (21-10) helped secure Vardre a 7-7 draw at Bethesda .

Section D leaders Conwy B were jolted 10-4 at Sunny Rhyl, Pat Price 21-7.
