RHIAN ROXBURGH (Carneddau Triathlon club) and David Anderson (Manchester Tri) stormed the course at a windswept and rain-lashed Llandudno Triathlon on Sunday.
Race organisers, Xtra Mile Events, decided to cancel the 1500m sea swim due to safety concerns and run the race as a Duathlon, instead holding a 5km run as the first leg.
The 36km bike ride, tackling four laps of the Great Orme, was made more arduous with gale-force winds buffeting competitors near the summit, before a 10km run over the Little Orme to Rhos-on-Sea and back.
Both Anderson, a former GB cross country runner, and local talent Roxburgh led the men’s and women’s races from the front, neither relinquishing the lead from the gun.
Roxburgh’s winning time of 2h 18m 05s was good enough to place 11th in the men’s race, which Anderson won in 2:00:58.
Simon Roxburgh was looking good for a top-10 finish before a puncture on lap four saw him slip to 20th, whereas team-mate Adrian Leonard placed 15th in 2:18:47.
Other Carneddau Tri times at the meeting were: Russell Godwin 2:26:46, Martin Green 2:27:24, Glen Parry Jones 2:41:51, Tim Harding 2:47:49.
Martin Williams, completing in the Sprint Distance Race (half distance) clocked 1:37:41 to finish second in the 60–64 category.
