LLANDUDNO JUNCTION 2 LLANRWST UNITED 1
JUNCTION advanced to the last 32 of the FAW Trophy with a close fought win over local Welsh Alliance rivals Llanrwst at the Flyover Ground.
Mitchell Booth fired an early volley just wide for the Railwaymen before somehow clearing the bar from six yards.
Chris Johnson missed with a free header before on 18 minutes Jack Higgins put Junction in front from the penalty spot after he was adjudged to have been fouled in the box by Bryn Griffiths.
Llanrwst struggled to find their rhythm but were rewarded when Aron Jones cooly finished at the near post following a fine run down the left from Luke Roberts on the half hour.
Back came the Junction and Rwsters keeper Paul Roberts produced a great stop with his feet from Tom Patel before the hosts’ Scott Millington volleyed over from 10 yards.
It was no surprise when Higgins laid the ball off to Mike Lundstram who bent a shot into the corner to make it 2-1 to the Railwaymen.
Only a great header off the goal-line from Millington denied Jones a second for Llanrwst just before the break.
In the second half Roberts produced three fine stops from Lundstram, Higgins and Darrel Jones headed just wide and Patel missed a good chance.
Llanrwst battled hard and could have taken the game into extra time but Ed Davies could only fire straight at the keeper.
GLAN CONWY 3 BERRIEW 2
HOLDERS Glan Conwy overcame a very good Berriew side who were in the Cymru Alliance last season.
Glan opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a fine strike from Matty Sykes after playing a one- two with Andy Booker.
The visitors then came into the game and levelled on 20 minutes through Martin Ziemann, before taking the lead seven minutes later through the very impressive Will Thomas.
Whatever was said at half time in the Glan dressing room really worked, Bradleigh Jones scoring on 47 minutes followed by the winner from fully 30 yards by James Hobson in his first game since returning to the club after a spell at Llangefni Town.
Berriew pushed Glan back in the last 15 but could not get past the home defence, led by man of the match Tom Rooney.
MACHYNLLETH 3 CONWY UNITED 6 (aet)
AN eighth straight victory for Conwy but they needed extra time to see off Aberystwyth League outfit Machynlleth.
Connor Tierney fired the Musselmen ahead on 11 minutes, but poor visiting defending allowed Andrew Page to strike twice and make it 2-1 to Mach at half time.
Ricky Jones levelled for an improved Conwy after the break, but a foul by Steve Warburton on Page in the 63rd minute allowed Sion Jones to make it 3-2 to the mid-Walians from the spot.
Tierney headed home a Jones cross to square the tie again, then late on United were denied a blatant penalty after a Mach defender palmed a Ricky Jones shot past the post but the referee somehow awarded a corner.
In extra time Conwy bombarded the home goal and eventually a Joe Williams penalty, followed by goals from Paul Cassidy and Jones sealed their passage.
PENMAENMAWR PHOENIX 1 GLANTRAETH 2
PETER WILLIAMS’ late consolation goal failed to prevent Pen crashing out of the Trophy to a Glantraeth outfit they had previously beaten in the Welsh Cup last month.
