Football: Revenge for Llandudno Junction FC

REVENGE was sweet as Llandudno Junction defeated a Holywell Town side which beat them 4-1 earlier in the season by the same score.

The win moved Junction up to third in the Welsh Alliance League and this weekend the Railwaymen host neighbours Mochdre Sports in the Barritt Cup third round (1.45pm kick-off)with the reward a visit to Gap Connah's Quay in the quarter-finals.

Saturday's encounter saw both sides threaten early doors, Junction's Jake Cassidy seeing his shot flash past the upright, while a fine Liam Ewing save from a free- kick and a goal-line clearance by Darrel Jones prevented the Wellmen taking the lead.

The hosts went ahead on the half hour when Simon Kay thundered home from a Luke O'Mahoney corner, but seven minutes later Wayne Bayliss equalised for the visitors.

After the restart Junction upped the tempo and started to keep the ball better, taking full control of the game.

Aaron Spencer missed a great chance before he made amends on 55 minutes, turning sharply to fire in from six yards.

On 67 minutes Joel Hewitt made it 3-1 with a left-foot shot from inside the box and substitute Mike Lundstram headed in Paul Cassidy's corner for number four.

"We played our best football of the season in the second half; our passing and movement were first class and it was sweet revenge for the beating we suffered earlier in the season," said winning manager Shane Cartwright.

"We looked strong all over the park and I just hope we can continue that form with the visit of Mochdre in the Barritt Cup."
