LLANRWST UNITED 3 NANTLLE VALE 0
BOTH teams went into Saturday’s clash at Gwydir Park high on confidence, Llanrwst after defeating Llandudno Junction the previous weekend and Nantlle Vale having gained their first win of the season with victory over Llandyrnog.
The Rwsters showed one change from the Junction game with Luke Roberts in for the unavailable Lee Allen. Captain Mathew Evans returned from injury but had to settle for a place on the bench.
United started brightly and took the lead in the first minute when Jamie Williams’ cross caused problems in the box, Gwion Schiavone let fly, but it was a Nantlle Vale defender who got the final touch on the ball.
Then followed a period of Nantlle pressure but the Llanrwst defence, marshalled superbly by Paul Roberts in goal, stood firm.
The hosts doubled their advantage when Luke Roberts broke the Nantlle offside trap and crossed for Aron Jones to control and finish, making it 2-0 at the interval.
With Aron Jones causing the visiting defence problems with his pace Llanrwst were denied strong claims for a penalty early in the second stanza.
They did not have to wait long for their third goal which came when Jamie Williams’ trickery in the box was rewarded when he was fouled and Leighton Griffiths confidently stepped up to fire home the resultant penalty.
That was how it was to remain with only a number of debatable offside decisions preventing Llanrwst from stretching their lead further.
Seth Jones’ side are now up to seventh in the Welsh Alliance, but are just two points behind third-placed Pwllheli.
The Rwsters have a number of very winnable matches coming up this month where they can improve their position further.
Llanrwst face Nantlle Vale in the league again this weekend – this time away from home at Maes Dulyn.
In Division Two of the Mackenzie Jones Clwyd League, Llanrwst reserves won 3-2 at Flint Mountain with Iwan Thomas scoring two penalties and Sion Jones notching a 90th minute winner
The reserves are at home this Saturday to Aston Park Reserves, 2pm kick-off.
