Hockey: Colwyn Bay's early-season struggles continue

NORTHERN 5 COLWYN BAY 0

TWO games into their first season in North Division Two (West) and Colwyn Bay’s first team find themselves with no points and no goals scored.

A windswept match at Northern saw the home side dominate from the start against visitors who looked rushed on the ball and lacking in confidence.

Northern took a deserved lead midway through the first half and then doubled their advantage from a penalty stroke. The Bay made a couple of half chances against the run of play but failed to convert them.

With the wind behind them after the half time break, Colwyn pressed to get something from the match, but were dealt a cruel blow by a Northern goal on the counter following a Bay attacking short corner.

At 3-0 down the visitors played their best hockey. They were unlucky to have a goal disallowed, hit the post and were thwarted by several good saves by the home team’s keeper.

Another break and Northern nicked a fourth goal, taking all the fight out of the Bay. The fifth goal was an inevitability.

Bay skipper Mike Lloyd was philosophical in defeat: "Things can only get better," he said.
