Football: Fantastic win for Llanrwst United FC

LLANRWST United kickstarted their Welsh Alliance League campaign in style with a 5-0 victory over Halkyn United at Parc Gwydir on Saturday.

The Rwsters started positively and soon took the lead when Mathew Evans played in Jamie Turner who drove past the Halkyn keeper.

The second goal came shortly after when Jamie Williams curled a shot home from 20 yards following a half- cleared corner.

Shortly before half time it was 3-0 when Evans fed a lovely through ball for Aron Jones to score.

Halkyn started the second half brightly but it was not long before Llanrwst added to their total when neat interplay between Jamie Williams and Luke Roberts allowed Turner to set up Aron Jones for his second of the game and fifth goal in six starts. Jamie Williams then wrapped up the scoring with another 20-yarder.

With no game this weekend Llanrwst visit Rhydymwyn on October 17 in the FAW Welsh Trophy third round.

KYLE Johnson’s late double sealed Mochdre Sports a 4-2 win at Caernarfon Wanderers in the Barritt Cup preliminary round.

Sports trailed 2-0 at half time, but launched a tremendous fightback in the second period, Glyn Knowles and Dean Allison pulling them level before Johnson’s heroics.

Llanfairfechan Town were beaten 2-1 at Sychdyn despite taking the lead through Jacob Griffiths.

IN the Black Dragon Badges Reserve Premier League, Matthew Hughes’ 80th minute strike earned Llandudno Junction a 1-0 victory over Llandyrnog.

Nathan Bower (2), Andy Leater and Costa Yianni enabled Glan Conwy to see off Halkyn United 4-1 and Llandudno had to settle for a 2-2 split at Rhyl, despite leading twice through Niall Owen and David Bellis.

The Lilywhites notched a 90th minute equaliser after Bellis looked to have won it for the Seasiders moments earlier.
