Darts: Penrhyn Arms win to stay top of Llandudno league

LEADERS and champions Penrhyn Arms A maintained their 100% record after a 5-2 success at basement boys Bron Eryri kept them top of the Worthington Llandudno and District Summer Darts League following last Tuesday’s fixtures (June 16).

In a match featuring seven 2-0 wins, Ian Jones, Jim Dorenbos, Rob Sumbland, Brian Maxwell and Brendan Keenan triumphed for Arms, Iwan Williams and Ian Jones responding for Bron in this Emlyn H Roberts Division One encounter.

Second-placed Community Club, just one defeat on their log, whipped Malt Loaf Conwy 6-1, Elwyn Jones, Ron Cox, Alan Williams, Ifor Davies, Stephen Williams and Warren Green their success stories, all by 2-0, Chris Jones the only Malt winner.

Cricket Club continue to stump the opposition, RAOB A their latest victims in a 5-2 outcome.

Andy Christian, Paul Thornton, Gary Wedge, John Gregory and Gwain Jones hit the boundary for the Cricketers, Eric Shears and Peter Hibbert ensuring the visitors did not finish up empty-handed.

Kings Arms, who lie third, emphatically took the honours 6-1 at Labour Club with Jason Atkinson, John Small, Alan Hughes, Mal Mullin, Geoff Morris and Richie Hughes all hitting their vital doubles first. Labour’s Mike Jones prevented a whitewash by edging past Martin Beresford 2-1.

In Samson Services Division Two, undefeated leaders Pen-y-Bryn B had to work hard to grab a 4-3 victory at Old Hall.

Conrad Blydenstein’s 2-0 defeat of Dave Bent clinched it for Pen, whose other winners were S Roberts, Chris Griffiths and Gareth Jones, but Wyn Slater, Bernard Morgan and Alan Williams took Hall close.

Penrhyn Arms C squeezed a 4-3 verdict at Links Hotel, skipper Maz Yates, Derek Groves, Jake Yates and Mat Westwood providing the all-important away wins. Michael Williams, Barry Rowlands and Ian Eardley replied for Links.

In another 4-3 scoreline, RAOB B nudged past Maelgwyn. Mitch Morgan, Colin Cureton, Eddie Cox and Geoff Wedge ensured a home win, Nigel Jones, Bradley Jones and David Bertwhistle successful for the Junction outfit.

Invincible Penrhyn Arms B whitewashed Cross Keys 7-0 in Dilys Doyle Division Three, Jon Sumbland, Deiniol Graham, Lee Hayward, Dave Commander, P Brown, Will Taylor and G Hughes recording the victories.

West Shore Club A, up to second, saw off Station Hotel by the narrow margin of 4-3. Danny Owen, Jason Jones, Wayne Smith and Ian Adamson were on top for WSC, Johnny Evans, Pete Bower and Bob Morris running Station close.

Mountain View A upset British Legion’s title aspirations with a 5-2 win, Arthur Roberts, Ron Allot, Simon Jones, Dave Gardner and Eifion Williams on target for the hosts, Keith Allen and Ray Hender putting Legion on the scoreboard.

With leaders Alexandra Hotel having a blank night in Pen-y-Bryn Division Four, Mike Castro’s Town House went a clear second with a 7-0 away drubbing of a weakened The Estuary, just a place below them in the table.

Club 147 defeated West Shore B 5-2 and Pen-y-Bryn A also prevailed 5-2 at the expense of winless Mountain View B.

IN the Gwalia Summer Darts League Ken Evans Open Pairs Memorial Competition, the best of five legs semi-finals saw Graham Williams and Karl Leo (Colwyn Bay Legion A) beat Jim Fenton and Rob Babbs (Wings Social Club) 3-0, while Chris Day and Gary Davies (Semaphore Lodge) overcame team-mates Owen Parry and Dave Williams by the same score.

Held at the Victoria Club, 12 of the 13 scheduled pairs turned out. The finals will take place on the league’s finals night on August 25.

Quarter-final results: Williams & Leo beat Jeff Jones & Arthur Holland (C Bay Legion A) 2-1, Fenton & Babbs beat Mary Fenton & Jo Babbs (Wings) 2-0, Parry & Williams beat Mel Evans & Eddie Davies (Semaphore) 2-0, Day & Davies beat Gwilym Parry & John Jones (Vic Club C) 2-0.

Open Cup Competition quarter-final draw (to be played tonight, June 25): Vic Club C v Semaphore, Fair View Inn v Marine, Royal v Park Hotel, Ship Hotel Rhos B v Mountain View Hotel.
