WE now move well into the 2009 summer league season which again sees some very high standard of 501 darts in all four of our divisions – as shown by our league once again having the proud boast of producing some top players for major BDO competitions.
Jim Dorenbos is a prominent member of the Llandudno darts league playing for the Penrhyn Arms A team as well as the pubs county team, and we congratulate him and Larry Ellis – not forgetting our other members who took part and kept the flag flying.
The Penrhyn Arms A stayed top of the Emlyn H Roberts-sponsored Division One after beating the newly-promoted Labour club 6-1.
Dorenbos again hit a 14-dart shot-out while team-mate Ian Jones checked out in 17 darts and Rob Sumbland 15.
Martin Beresford’s King’s Arms, fresh from winning the winter league’s inter league cup, also turned on cracking darts to beat visitors RAOB club A 6-1. Meanwhile, the honeymoon was over for the Cricket Club at the Community club, who won 5-2 thanks to a 180 by Steve Williams.
At the Bron Eryri, Paul Eccles and his team went right to the wire against newly-promoted Malt Loaf, with Ian Jones winning the final game to give the hosts victory. Gary Jones hit 180.
In the Samson Service-sponsored Division Two there was no change at the top, the title race hotting up between the RAOB club B, the Maelgwyn and Pen y Bryn B.
Malc Vickers’ Pen y Bryn side beat the Golf Club 4-3 and the Maelgwyn won 6-1 at the Links Hotel, Nigel Jones hitting a 180. Meanwhile, Maz Yates’ Penrhyn Arms C team are struggling to hit form and lost 5-2 to Old Hall.
In the Pen Y Bryn-sponsored Division Three there was no stopping newcomers West Shore Club A, who beat Mountain View 4-3, Jason Jones clinching victory in the final game.
Lee Harris and his Cross Keys team are still without a win after losing to Andy Campbell’s Station Hotel side.
The British Legion Club bounced back after a shaky start to this summer season, winning 4-3 at the Crosville.
In the Club 147-sponsored Division Four the newcomers at the Estuary in Glan again won, this time against Pen y Bryn A helped by a 120 shot-out from Darren Bartlett.
Shaun Morgan’s new-look Alexandra team beat the Town House helped by a 180 from Alfie Roberts and despite a 101 check-out from Mike Castro.
Lorraine Evans’ West Shore B team won at home to Jean Wilson’s Mountain View B team.
All team captains are reminded no extra players can be signed after the deadline of Tuesday, June 30.
