GLAN CONWY will travel to Powys side Presteigne St Andrews for a place in the quarter-finals of the FAW Welsh Trophy after continuing their astonishing goal rampage in the competition with a 12-1 victory over Borras Park Albion last Saturday.

And that was after they were 1-0 down after 35 minutes, with only a couple of fine saves by Andy Rooney preventing the Wrexham area side going further ahead.

"I was quite concerned at that stage and was preparing a half-time rollicking for the players," admitted manager Paul Moroney. "But three goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half totally changed the game," he said.

"We got another goal right after the break and they just seemed to throw the towel in after that."

Aled Stapleton and Ashley Smith (pcitured)  both scored hat-tricks, and for Smith that was his fourth treble of the season and his third in this competition after a six-goal haul against Newbridge-on-Wye.

Skipper Shaun Shannon scored twice on Saturday and Ross Howcroft-Jones, Gareth Davies, Leon Griffiths and a last minute own goal completed the rout.

The Cae Ffwt side have now scored a staggering 30 goals in three games to reach the last 16 of the competition, after earlier wins of 11-1 against Newbridge-on-Wye and 7-2 against Llanrhaedr Ym Mochant.

The fourth round tie away to Spar MidWales League side Presteigne St Andrews is on November 22.

LLANRWST UNITED, however, are out of the competition after conceding an extra time match-winner in a 1-0 defeat at Rhydymwyn.

They had a number of first team regulars unavailable and failed to make the most of two one-on-ones with the keeper in a goalless normal time.

Both teams had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the crossbar in a tightly fought contest, but Rhydymwyn won it nine minutes in the extra half hour when a long throw in was flicked on for Tom McElmeel to head the winner.

"We were a bit upset about the goal because there was a handball in the build-up which the referee missed," reported Llanrwst manager Chris Williams.

"It was a tight game and they got the lucky break to win it."
