LLANFAIRFECHAN racing driver Richard Singleton scored his first podium finish of the year for the HiTech Junior team in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, after finishing second out of a staggering 54 cars at Estoril in Portugal last Sunday.
"It has been a fantastic weekend, I cant stop smiling," he said.
"We’ve been making progress over the last few races and we made a big step forward at the weekend with the car set-up.
"Also I approached the weekend differently. I’ve tried to relax a bit and be more confident and that has made a big difference."
Richard lined up on the front row with Finnish driver and new championship leader Valtteri Bottas after an excellent qualifying run, and although Bottas got the strongest start, Singleton was in a good rhythm and despite two safety cars and the close attentions of fellow Welsh driver Alex Morgan, he was only a second behind Bottas at the end of the 15 lap race.
"This is my first podium finish in the series and couldn’t be more happy if I’d won the race," he said afterwards.
" The safety car helped me a lot as my tyres were really suffering and Alex Morgan was gaining fast, but I really feel my confidence is back up again and the next race can’t come quick enough."
The next race in the Eurocup series is in Barcelona in three weeks time.
