Football: Skipper’s boost for Conwy United

CONWY UNITED have had a boost ahead of Saturday’s opening league derby clash against Glan Conwy in the Design2PrintWelsh Alliance, with news that skipper Paul Cassidy could be fit to play after an ankle injury.

He got a 25 minute run out in the second half in Tuesday night’s 3-2 friendly win over Mochdre and appeared to come through it ok.

"We’ll have to see if there is any reaction, but it looks as though he will be involved on Saturday – although we may start him on the bench," said manager Barry Jones.

Cassidy’s quick recovery is welcome news after losing keeper Kyle Dent with a broken arm last week.

Conwy have signed 17-year-old Tom Easton as goalkeeping cover

Following last week’s game against the Blackburn Rovers academy side, Conwy’s Aaron Pritchard has been invited for trials with the Premiership club.

Goals from Jamie Jones, superbly set up by Oliver Walters in the first half, and the Ian Pattinson and Matt Cassidy from set pieces gave Conwy their win on Tuesday, although Mochdre put up good resistance and got a couple of goals back through Glyn Knowles and Robbie Knowles.
