Silkmen seething at cruel Cup knockout

FLINT Town United were left fuming after their controversial North Wales Coast FA Cup fourth round exit at the hands of Cemaes Bay on Saturday.

The Silkmen went down 3-2 but club officials were incensed at two of the Islanders' goals, which they claim were blatantly offside.

Reports earlier this week suggested Flint were even considering lodging an off icial complaint over the matter but chairman Allan Baines told the Chronicle he would not be taking the issue any further.

He said: 'You feel like taking action after seeing decisions like that but there's no way we can change the outcome of the game now so it's pointless.

'It was a disappointing way to go out the Cup and the players deserved better. They worked their socks off and it was clear to me that two of Cemaes Bay's goals were offside and definitely shouldn't have stood.'

Shaun Beck and Lee Jones netted for the Silkmen.

Meanwhile, Halkyn United experienced the highs and lows of cup football in the space of just four days.

Although they crashed out of the Cymru Alliance League Cup on Tuesday, they were celebrating on Saturday after booking a place in the quarter-f inals of the NWCFA Cup with a 2-1 victory at Denbigh Town.

An own goal from Jonathan Slater and a Dave Sweet effort earned United a home tie with Felinheli in the last-eight on Saturday, March 15.

Holders Buckley Town booked their place in the quarter-f inals of the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup with a 2-0 victory over neighbours Mold Alex at Globe Way.

Ex-Connah's Quay Nomads man Julian Pepper twice hit the woodwork for the hosts who took a 10th-minute lead from the penalty spot.

Midfielder Mike Lewis coolly converted from 12 yards following a handball incident.

Alex keeper Steve Massey was called upon to keep his side in the game but Buckley sealed victory after the break thanks to Darren Williams.

Airbus UK had an easier passage in the same competition, hammering New Brighton 7-0 at Broughton.

Steve Bird bagged two as Steve Hughes, John Farrell, Paul Dodd, Mike Costello and Paul Armour completed the rout.
