Rugby Union: Colwyn Bay beaten at Bro

BRO FFESTINIOG 47 COLWYN BAY 14

BAY were outscored by six tries to two at Dolawel and slipped to the bottom of WRU Division One North.

The home side were quickly six points ahead when centre Barry Roberts landed two penalties before they scored their first try after Marc Morris pounced on an Ian Ellis’ grubber kick and Roberts added the conversion.

Bro went further ahead when second row Terry Lay went over for a fine individual try as he burst through a number of Bay defenders to score under the posts and Roberts converted and then added another penalty soon after for 23-0.

Before the break Bro’s Owen Roberts was sin-binned for a high tackle.

With the home side a player short Colwyn Bay scored their first try as hooker Sam Stevens went over for a try converted by full- back Tom Duff.

Bro hit back immediately and from the kick-off full-back Ellis caught the ball and after some good work by hooker Tom James and Dai Roberts right winger Steven Lay went over for an unconverted try.

Bro were in complete command and Colwyn were hampered when they had a forward yellow-carded but to their credit it was Bay’s Stevens who scored his side’s second try again converted by Duff.

The home side then claimed their fourth try as Ellis crossed the line and Roberts added the extras.

The next few minutes belonged to Bro’s Barry Roberts who scored a total of 12 points with two tries and a conversion and he was named man of the match.
