Rugby Union: Nant Conwy and Llandudno await the Plate

TWO local rugby clubs return to action this Saturday in the second round of the Swalec Plate competition.

Nant Conwy will play host to Llangefni while Llandudno make the trip to the Vale of Clwyd to take on Ruthin.

WRU Division One North champions Nant are expectedly to win comfortably against a Llangefni side yet to pick up a win this season and struggling at the bottom of the league.

However, the Trefriw men will be wary of the fact that when they travelled to take on the Anglesey side earlier in the campaign in a league encounter, they found it far from easy in picking up a 25-16 victory.

Llandudno were due to visit Ruthin last weekend for a league game but a frozen pitch put paid to the fixture.

The teams will try again in the Plate and Tudno might fancy their chances of victory in a season where they have looked a much improved side.

Reports from the Maesdu Park camp have revealed a good turnout in training and a great spirit and determination in the squad.

Much could depend on the form of kicker Rhodri Carlton Jones who has been outstanding this season.

The six-week break for the autumn internationals came just at the wrong time for Tudno after they had beaten Nant Conwy for the first time in many years.
