NANT CONWY 39 COLWYN BAY 7
Division One North
A BONUS point victory at Trefriw last Thursday returned Nant Conwy back to the summit of WRU Division One North.
This match was over as a contest before it started with it being played with passive scrums throughout as Colwyn Bay did not have sufficient front row players.
Nant began scoring on a regular basis after 15 minutes when Gareth Jones grabbed two tries from rucks by the opponents’ line, Llywarch ap Myrddin converting the first.
The extra point was achieved on either side of the half hour mark when both Ioan Davies and Rhys Roberts broke through.
Just before the break, Bryn Williams scored a try for the Bay from a ruck – converted by his brother, Thom.
But Nant had not finished yet and it was a wonderful sight to see Medwyn Vaughan galloping along the wing to dive over for a try to make it 27-7 at half time.
Ifan Jones scored the sixth try for Nant two minutes into the second half and ap Myrddin duly converted.
Immediately from the restart, Daniel Newcombe picked up the ball and registered a try out on the wing.
In fact, this was the last score of the evening. As the rain became heavier and Nant made several substitutions, the game deteriorated into a tight contest. game in and around the halfway.
Nant will have high hopes of another victory this Saturday when they play host to Llangefni (2.30pm).
