Rugby: Nant Conwy reach North Wales Cup semi-finals

Rugby

NANT CONWY reached the semi-finals of the rugby's North Wales Cup with an 18-7 win over Llandudno on Saturday (January 24).

But Llandudno, who led 7-5 at one stage in a game of uncontested scrums due to Llandudno's lack of forwards, were in the tie until the very last minute when the Conwy Valley side sealed their progress to the last four with a late converted try.

Nant won with tries from Owain Jones and Carwyn Williams plus a conversion and two penalties by Carwyn Ap Myrddin, while Llanduno replied with a try from Lloyd Owen and conversion from Rhodri Carlton Jones.

IN football, Llandudno came from behind at half-time to win 3-1 at Landyrnog United with two goals from Chris Boulton and an own goal.

In the Welsh Alliance Glan Conwy trounced Amlwch 14-0 to make it 21 goals scored in their last two league games, while Llanrwst United and Llandudno Junction both won 4-1 away to Nantlle Vale and Llanrug United, but Conwy United were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Rhydywmyn.

Colwyn Bay were without a game, but will be pleased that three of the sides above them (Lancaster, Bamber Bridge and Mossley) were beaten.
