ABERGELE’S quest to win the inaugural WRU Division 6 North title is gaining momentum after two late tries gave them a hard-fought bonus point in a 22-10 win at Menai Bridge.
Their scrum took time to settle, but the lineout provided a regular source of possession and they took a 10-3 lead with the good handling by backs and forwards setting up a try for Gareth Blythin, before Mattie Lynam powered over from a penalty move close to the line.
Gele spurned several scoring opportunities after that and paid the price when Menai Bridge levelled the scores with a length-of-the-field try and conversion to add to an earlier penalty.
Despite having the main share of possession, Gele struggled to make a breakthrough until two late tries from supersubs Sion Edwards and Richie Medlicott and a Gareth Evans conversion won the day.
Abergele are at home to Harlech this Saturday.
