Rugby Union: Nant Conwy win at Llandudno

LLANDUDNO 8 NANT CONWY 40

WRU DIVISION ONE NORTH

WHILE Nant Conwy celebrated a third straight win, Llandudno were left to reflect on a third defeat in a row and a second game in succession where they had shipped 40 points.

Grant Jones notched a hat-trick of tries for the visitors, Gerallt Owain and Huw Williams also crossing the home line with Carwyn ap Myrddin adding 15 points with the boot.

The visiting team’s dominance in the forwards enabled the scrum-half to provide plenty of possession for the backs.

It was 18-3 to Nant at half time, Lloyd Griffith kicking a penalty for Tudno, then the second period was a much more open affair.

Nant had the best of it, Jones completing his hat-trick and Owain and Williams also crossing, while the hosts replied with a consolation try.

Llandudno’s problem is the front five as they have had to call out of retirement both veteran prop forwards Jason Roberts and Mike Hughes and when both of these left the field in the second half, Nant ran away with the game.

“It’s still early in the season and we’re making mistakes, but we’re gradually getting to where we want to be,” said Nant’s backs coach Kevin Thomas.

This Saturday Nant Conwy entertain a Llangefni side which has won one and lost two so far while Llandudno have no fixture..
