YOUNG Penmaenmawr player Gafyn Jones pulled off a great win in the match against Mochdre A to help secure a 3-2 victory in the Conwy and District Wednesday League.
Gafyn required four snookers in his game against veteran John Pratt, and after some brilliant safety play managed all four and went on to clear the colours for a fantastic win. Other winners for Pen were Dion Jones and Rob Williams.
Llandudno Legion carried on their great start to the season with an emphatic 5-0 win at Mochdre B, while last with wins from P McGibbin, K Williams D Evans P Kearney and G Evans.
Last year’s champions Crosville got back to winning ways against their bogey team Llanddulas Legion with a narrow 3-2 verdict and Malt Loaf secured a 4-1 triumph over win thanks to D Thomas, C Black and Loz Evans, while T Cannon and R Jarvis replied for the side bottom of the table.
Malt Loaf recovered from last weeks points deduction to record a 4-1 thrashing of league leaders Labour Club. T Lea, Adam Chance, Ian Hughes and C Shepherd all won for the Loaf, while D Ebbrell replied with Labour consolation win.
CRICKET Club B and Penmaenmawr jointly lead the Gap-Personnel Thursday Snooker League but with a game in hand Cricket A look set to grab pole position over the next fortnight after both the current top two take turns to have the open date.
Cricket B once again had to pull it out of the fire at the Crosville Club to earn a 3-3 draw.
Being 3-1 down they needed Rosie Williams to concoct his latest good performance and knock in another 40 break to save the day.
Williams has now had breaks of 41, 51 and 40 in his three matches so far, maintaining his 100% start.
In the other match at the top of the table Llan Cons B drew with Penmaenmawr but could and possibly should have won 5-1.
Cons B went 2-0 up through John Fangio Jones, playing very well against Gethin Roberts to win 79-51, and Mike Noden was solid in beating Mike Wilson 84-58.
Two very close games on the black followed which both went to Penmaenmawr with Paul R Hughes winning and the very reliable Alan Jones ending Richard King’s 100% record.
With the match all square Steve Ing for the Cons lost out to the consistent Lee Booth 73-46 and with Penmaenmawr now 3-2 up, it needed a good win for Llan’s Bill Turner to see off the experienced Paul Hopkinson to ensure spoils were shared.
