COLWYN BAY are hoping to have at least one new signing on board in time for Saturday’s Unibond Division I North fixture at Wakefield.
Manager Neil Young commented: "I have spoken to a number of players this week and have made them offers. I am now waiting for them to come back to me, but I am hopeful at least one signing can be finalised in time for Saturday."
Dean Canning will miss the game at Wakefield through a one-match suspension, but after two successive postponements last week, the manager will be anxious that the game can go ahead.
Wakefield, however, were unable to play at home to Farsley Celtic in the West Riding Cup on Tuesday night due a frozen pitch and it will need a change in the weather for Saturday’s game to go ahead.
Colwyn Bay are currently two points behind the West Yorkshire side with two games in hand and need to get something against a side who have dropped points in six of their 11 home league games this season.
Wakefield will also be without first choice keeper Andy Woods who was red carded for handling outside his area early on in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Halifax, with striker James Walshaw having to take over in goal.
That defeat ended a four-match unbeaten run by the Yorkshire side which had put them in the running for the division’s Club of the Month award for December - only to be pipped by Skelmersdale United (four wins and a draw) who took the title for the second month running.
Wakefield’s main goal threat comes from striker Chris Howarth who is top scorer with 11 goals.
Colwyn Bay’s Unibond Division One North match at Curzon Ashton, which was postponed last Saturday, has now been re-arranged for Monday, February 16, while the home match against Trafford, postponed on New Year’s Day, will now be played on Tuesday, February 24.
The away match against Chorley has been brought forward from February 24 to Saturday, February 7.
