GLAN CONWY travel to Caernarfon Wanderers this Saturday on the back of a hard-fought 0-0 draw with high-flyers Bethesda Athletic.
The result sees Jon Chapman’s side lie eighth in Welsh Alliance Division One but with the potential to go higher if they can pick up three points this weekend.
Saturday’s game saw Glan claim a first draw of the campaign in their 11th league start.
The match was played out in difficult conditions on a sticky surface and a strong wind threatening to spoil the game, but to their credit both teams continued to play some neat football.
Glan started brightly and should have gone ahead after just two minutes following a goalmouth scramble resulting in Chris Beardmore failing to find the back of the net from six yards out.
The next chance went begging soon after as Jonathan Turner did brilliantly to round Liam Shanahan in the Bethesda goal only to fire over the bar from an acute angle.
Again Glan missed the opportunity to go ahead on 20 minutes when Alun Webb raced into the area only to see his shot superbly saved by Shanahan.
Bethesda found their feet after this and enjoyed a good spell creating a few half chances themselves.
Gareth Davies blasted over from just inside the area and in the 41st minute, from another long throw into the area, Neil Hughes saw his goalbound header superbly tipped round the post by Glan custodian Aaron Peel.
The second half was pretty much the same with both teams creating opportunities without applying the clinical finish.
Bethesda enjoyed the first good spell of the second half with Neil Hughes and Mike Lundstrum both hitting the bar and Peel again pulling off a good save to deny defender Lee Dixon.
At the other end Shanahan saved well from Turner while Andy Booker saw his free kick hit the side-netting.
Glan finished the game strongly and Webb almost nicked it in the 87th minute but saw his volley held by Shanahan.
A 0-0 draw but certainly not boring and probably a fair result in the end from a well-contested affair.
LLANRWST UNITED lost 2-0 to a Denbigh Town side boosted by the signing of striker Ian Griffiths from Welsh Premier League club Prestatyn Town.
And Griffiths proved his class by scoring both goals at Central Park.
Denbigh had the advantage of the elements in the first half but although having the majority of possession and attacking positions they could penetrate a well-organised Llanrwst defence.
The Rwsters weathered the early storm and with Leighton Griffiths getting more of the ball they set up a few attacks.
However, United keeper Paul Roberts had to make three good stops before Ian Griffiths made it 1-0 with a deft header.
Llanrwst failed to build on a promising start to the second half and a Griffiths second sealed it.
