Football: Two Welsh Alliance derbies

TWO local Welsh Alliance League derbies being played next Monday (January 3) have all the makings of turning into lively affairs.

Conwy United, currently second in Division One, will welcome local rivals Llandudno Junction, currently eighth, to Y Morfa (2pm).

The teams were supposed to meet on Tuesday in the first of a quick double header but the match at the Flyover was postponed due to a burst water pipe at the ground.

Key figures for the Musselmen will include the league’s top goalscorer Toby Jones, while the always dangerous Jack Higgins is likely to be a threat for the Railwaymen.

With leaders Holyhead Hotspur not down for a fixture, Conwy will take over top spot if they defeat Jon Stazicker’s side.

Another corker could be in store when Llanrwst United take on Glan Conwy at Parc Gwydir (2pm).

These two also had a scheduled battle planned for Tuesday but Glan’s Cae Ffwt was deemed unfit for play.

Glan, last season’s runners-up, currently lie sixth in the table, while the Rwsters are 11th but showed what they are capable of with an excellent 5-1 win at Llanrug in their last outing.
