Football: Apologies as Llandudno FC lose at home

LLANDUDNO 0 GUILSFIELD 3

LLANDUDNO’S management team has apologised to supporters for Saturday’s woeful display against Guilsfield at Maesdu Park.

The Seasiders’ inconsistency at home resurfaced in the shape of a dismal defeat against the lowly mid- Wales side.

"It was shocking – personally I’m only just getting over it now," said assistant manager Grant Montgomery on Tuesday.

"Myself, manager Mark Hewitt and the players and rest of the management would like to apologise to the fans who came to watch that, it was unacceptable.

"The old problem of the past three years where we struggle against so- called lower teams resurfaced.

"We don’t have a problem against the higher teams, we can compete against them, but seem to have a mental problem against teams lower than us; we seem to take it easy against lower opposition.

"You can make all the excuses in the world, but the fact is we didn’t show enough effort or grit and it didn’t help that we were reduced to 10 men in the first half.

"All in all it was a disastrous day and the only consolation is we’ve got a home game straight away against Rhayader this Saturday which gives us a chance to put things right."

Hewitt and Montgomery plan to make changes for the visit of Rhayader Town and hope experienced defender Tim Brandreth will be fit enough to return from injury.

The Guilsfield match was eminently forgettable.

The visitors took a 14th minute lead when defender Wyn Williams misunderstood a call from his colleagues, ducked under a cross and allowed Ross Frame to score.

Tudno’s cause was certainly not helped when midfield battler Joe Morgan reacted angrily to a bad tackle and received a straight red card for violent conduct.

The hosts did push hard to get back into the game, but two minutes into the second period a bad pass by Danny Hughes led to Chris Roberts making it 2-0 to Guils.

That proved to be the crucial strike as although the Seasiders pressed to open their account the encounter was well and truly settled when Frame added number three on 80 minutes.

A SPECIAL tribute match will be held in honour of a much respected and very successful former Llandudno player and manager after the Rhayader game this Saturday.

Gareth "Taff" Jones passed away on June 13 this year. In his memory, a fundraising match will kick off at 5pm, almost straight after Llandudno’s first team game.

The match will feature past players of Llandudno FC who played alongside, against or under Taff in the 1990s. Anyone interested in taking part can call Steve McElroy on 07917 266954.

After the match a quiz night will be held in the clubhouse.
