Football: Delight for Llandudno Junction FC after five-goal win

LLANDUDNO Junction remain hot on the heels of the Welsh Alliance title contenders after a superb 5-0 win over third from bottom Amlwch Town.

Simon Kay opened the scoring on eight minutes before Jake Cassidy made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.

Joel Hewitt added a third three minutes after the break, before Aaron Spencer fired with 15 minutes to go and Cassidy fired his second and Junction’s fifth on 85 minutes.

The win keeps Junction in third place, on goal difference ahead of local rivals Llanrwst United, and just one point shy of Barmouth and Dyffryn in second, while leaders Rhydymwyn are seven points clear, but have played two games more than the men from the Flyover Ground.

This Saturday Junction are back in action as they travel to GAP Connah’s Quay for a third round clash of the Barritt Cup.

Conwy United are also in Barritt Cup action this Saturday as they entertain local rivals Glan Conwy.

And they warmed up for the clash with a 2-2 draw at Llanrug United.

Conwy were never behind at Llanrug, taking a fifth minute lead through Oliver Walters.

Gareth Eifion Jones pulled one back for the home side seven minutes later, before Ben Hughes restored Conwy’s advantage two minutes after the break.

However, it was not to be as Gethin Phillips fired a last minute equaliser to ensure the points were shared.
