Football: Williams steps down from manager’s role at Llanrwst United FC

THERE will be a change of management at Llanrwst United next season.

Chris Williams has decided to step down as first team boss after 10 successful years in the role.

Williams guided the Rwsters to promotion to the Welsh Alliance in 2004/05 and the team have finished in the top four for the past three seasons.

Last term they narrowly missed out on second spot and were the highest placed club from the Weekly News area.

Seth Jones, who previously played for Conwy United, Glan Conwy, Llandudno, Penmachno and Llanrwst, has been promoted from assistant boss to manager of the Rwsters for 2009/10.

At the club’s recent presentation evening, chairman Phil Smith presented a trophy to departing boss Williams in recognition of his 10 years’ service.

The Players Player of the Year trophy went to Bryn Griffiths.

Pre-season training will commence at 7pm on July 7 on the grass fields at Llanrwst Leisure Centre, Nebo Road, Llanrwst. All players, new and old, over the age of 16 are welcome to come along.

LEAGUE One club Oldham Athletic will be among CONWY UNITED’S pre-season friendly opponents. The Latics will visit the Welsh Alliance League side on Saturday, July 25.

Other friendlies for the Musselmen: Sat, July 11 – Deganwy FC (away), Sat, July 18 – Llangefni Town (away),ŠThurs, July 30 – Mochdre (home), Sat, August 1 – Llanfairfechan (venue to be confirmed), Thu, Aug 6 – Llandudno (away) and Sat, Aug 8 – Newton FC (home).

Eifion Hughes and ex-Rhyl Reserves boss Jon Stazicker will jointly manage the first team this season and have been very encouraged by the turnout at summer training so far.

Conwy are also seeking to appointŠa new manager for their reserves team for 2009/10.

The key aspects to the job would be to nurture the young players at the club and support the senior team managers.

Applicants would ideally have a proven football coaching ability and experience of coaching youth or adult players.

LLANDUDNO JUNCTION are holding pre-season training tonight (Thursday) at the Flyover Ground.

All players welcome as managers Shane Cartwright and Lee Thornton hope to build on last season’s success of winning the Barritt Cup and finishing in the top six of the Welsh Alliance.

Both bosses are looking to add more quality players to the squad following a very promising 2008/09 campaign.
